Following the loss of the north, the author wrote this book to vividly recall the breathtaking prosperity and bustling daily life of the former capital, Kaifeng. As Elder Meng explains in his preface, he recorded these memories so the vibrant culture and customs of the lost capital would not fade into oblivion. Through his words, future generations can simply open the book and step back in time to witness the city in all its former glory.
