【Mourning Garments and Minor Records, Chapter 15】\n\nFor the mourning of a father, the hair is bound with hemp; for the mourning of a mother, the hair is also bound with hemp, but after the ritual of removal, a cloth band is used. For the mourning of one year (Qi Cui), the mourning pin of a coarse hairpin is worn until the end of the mourning period. Men wear the cap, and women wear the hairpin; men perform the ritual of removal (Mian), and women wear the mourning coiffure (Zhua). The principle is: for men, the Mian is used; for women, the Zhua is used.\nThe unadorned staff is made of bamboo; the trimmed staff is made of tung wood.\nWhen the grandfather has died, and one becomes the heir of the grandmother, the mourning lasts three years.\nFor the death of parents, the eldest son knocks his head on the ground (Qisang). When a high official comes to offer condolences, even if the mourning is for a distant relative (Si), one must perform the Qisang. Women perform the Qisang for their husbands and eldest sons; for others, they do not.\nThe male host must be of the same surname, and the female host must be of a different surname.\nFor one who is the heir of the father, there is no mourning for a divorced mother.\nThe affection for relatives extends from three to five, and from five to nine; it diminishes upward, downward, and laterally, and then the kinship is complete.\nA king performs the Di sacrifice to his ancestor's origin, matching him with his ancestor, and establishes four ancestral temples. Even a son of a concubine who becomes king does the same.\nThe separate son becomes the ancestor; those who continue the separate line form the main lineage; those who continue the line of the deceased father form the minor lineage. There are lineages that are moved after five generations; these are those that continue the line of the great-great-grandfather. Therefore, when the ancestor is moved above, the lineage changes below. Respecting the ancestor, one honors the lineage head; honoring the lineage head is the way to respect the ancestor and the father.\nThe son of a concubine does not sacrifice to the ancestor, to clarify the lineage. The son of a concubine does not wear the three-year mourning for the eldest son, because he does not continue the line of the ancestor and the father. The son of a concubine does not sacrifice to those who died young or those without heirs, for those who died young and those without heirs are fed together with the ancestor in the ancestral temple.\nThe son of a concubine does not sacrifice to the deceased father, to clarify the lineage.\n……
