【Palaces and Halls · Part 2】\n\n【Palace Poems】\n\nTwo Palace Poems · The First\nZhang Hu\nThree thousand miles from my homeland,\nTwenty years deep within the palace walls.\nA single note of "He Man Zi" sounds,\nAnd twin tears fall before the sovereign.\n\nPoem of the Palace\nZhu Qingyu\nIn silent bloom, the courtyard gates are closed,\nFair ladies stand together by the jade rail.\nWith hearts full, they wish to speak of palace affairs,\nBut dare not utter a word before the parrot.\n\nPalace Lament\nBai Juyi\nTears soak the silk scarf, dreams remain unfulfilled,\nDeep in the night, songs drift from the front hall.\nBeauty not yet faded, favor already severed,\nLeaning on the incense burner, she sits till dawn.\n\nPalace Farewell\nLi Shangyin\nThe sovereign's favor flows eastward like water,\nIn favor, one fears change; out of favor, one grieves.\nDo not play "Flowers Fall" before the wine cup,\nFor the cold wind blows only at the western end of the hall.\n\n【Towers】\n\nOn the Stork Tower\nWang Zhihuan\nThe sun sets behind the mountains,\nThe Yellow River flows into the sea.\nTo see a thousand miles farther,\nClimb one more story of the tower.\n\nThe Yellow Crane Tower\nCui Hao\nThe ancient one has ridden the yellow crane away,\nLeaving only the Yellow Crane Tower here.\nThe yellow crane, once gone, returns no more,\nWhite clouds drift idly for a thousand years.\nClear rivers reflect the trees of Hanyang,\nLush grasses cover Parrot Isle.\nAt dusk, where lies my homeland?\nMist and waves on the river stir my sorrow.\n\nClimbing Yueyang Tower with Xia the Twelfth\nLi Bai\nThe tower overlooks all of Yueyang,\nThe river stretches far, Dongting Lake opens wide.\nWild geese carry my sorrow away,\nThe mountain holds the lovely moon aloft.\nClouds connect to where I rest,\nThe sky receives the passing cup.\nAfter wine, a cool breeze rises,\nBlowing sleeves in dance, they swirl and sway.\n\nClimbing Yueyang Tower\nDu Fu\nLong have I heard of Dongting's waters,\nNow I ascend Yueyang Tower.\nWu and Chu split to the southeast,\nHeaven and earth float day and night.\nNot a word from family or friends,\nAged and ill, I have but a lone boat.\nWar rages north of the mountain passes,\nLeaning on the rail, tears and mucus flow.
